Hi! I’m Katie, an AICP-certified urban planner in Brooklyn, NY.
I’m an urban planner (AICP Certified) who is passionate about sustainability, resiliency, walkability, and community development. I thrive working with data, and most of my work revolves around geospatial analysis, report creation using Adobe InDesign, writing, data visualization, and project management. For the past three years, I’ve been working in comprehensive planning, economic redevelopment planning, resiliency planning, community engagement, parks and recreation master planning, and zoning ordinances.
I am a recent transplant to NYC from the South (Georgia born and raised), and I want to engage in the city around me through community projects. I love reading, writing, and walking about cities. In my time outside of work, I am an avid reader, cyclist, and cook.
Here’s what I’m good at:
-
Using ArcGIS Pro, I create map series for many clients, analyzing land use, environmental constraints, socioeconomics, development patterns, and linkage opportunities. Based upon the needs of the client, I design an aesthetically pleasing static map which is easy to understand for clients and community members alike. Often, I use my spatial analysis skills in the public engagement process, providing opportunities for communities to provide their feedback spatially, too.
-
I have worked with more than twenty public clients on their comprehensive and redevelopment planning projects. The strategy for these processes is context-based and is created based on the wants and conditions of the communities. I have worked with a variety of communities, from rural areas to mid-size cities, and each plan has required the ability to understand policies and financial constraints. My role in many of these projects is data analysis, writing, plan development, geospatial analysis, and client and community engagement.
-
Visually appealing and instructive reports filled are more likely to be implemented, especially when a community feels the reports represent their viewpoints, needs, and desires. These visualizations also provide opportunities for public engagement and can be used at public workshops, charettes, and open houses. Through the use of the Adobe Suite, I develop reports and visualizations which enhance the storytelling in a community.
